Reds Internships
Overview and Opportunities
PROGRAM GOAL:
Provide a career relevant work experience to a diverse group of college students. The goal of this experience is to enable students the opportunity to apply their learning in an employment environment. Students work in a professional environment under the supervision and monitoring of practicing professionals.
Objectives and practices will vary with each department.
Qualifications
- Candidate must be a full-time student at a university, college, institution of higher learning, or be a recent graduate, within the last six months). These requirements may vary from department to department.
- Candidate must pursue a degree in Sports Administration, or a degree specific to a department.
- Maximum internship period (for most departments) is six months.
- Due to budgetary constraints, requests for extending an internship beyond the six-month period must be approved by the Director of Human Resources and the Vice President of Finance/CFO
Paid Internships
- Effective January 1, 2009, interns will be paid a minimum of $7.30 per hour.
- Meals may be provided for game day interns.
- Interns may receive up to two tickets per homestand, subject to availability.
Unpaid Internships
- Unpaid interns may receive college credit and/or are required to complete an internship in order to graduate.
- Unpaid interns work under close observation of a regular employee or supervisor.
- Meals may be provided for game day interns.
- Interns may receive up to two tickets per homestand, subject to availability.
All interns are responsible for parking and housing.

POSITIONS:
Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame & Museum : POSITION FILLED
- Major: Any
- Requirements:
- Good communications and writing skills; must have the ability to work with the general public; interest in baseball and some knowledge of Reds history is nearly essential; general computer skills required.
- Duties will typically include assignments such as the following:
- Answering telephone inquiries regarding the Hall of Fame operations, membership reservations and group reservations.
- Conduct research, including library work, online searches, and on-site artifact research.
- Assist archivist/curator in working with artifacts and preparing them for exhibit.
- Assist in day-to-day office tasks, including answering letters, writing reports, inventories, etc.
Athletic Training Intern (2 positions) : OPEN
- Major: Athletic Training/Sports Medicine
- Responsibilities:
- Assist the Athletic Training staff with prevention, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and administrative tasks as it relates to baseball players.
- Assist with inventory control, record keeping and preparation of supplies for all practices and games.
- Responsible for assisting in the daily operation of an MLB athletic training room.
- Intern must be flexible to work non-traditional hours including: days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- NATA certification is a plus.
Baseball Operations Intern : POSITION FILLED
- Major: Any
- Responsibilities:
- Passion for baseball and strong desire to learn.
- Work well with others.
- Knowledge of statistics and computer skills (Word, Excel, Access).
Corporate Sales Intern : POSITION FILLED
- Major: Business, Marketing, Sports Business/Management
- Responsibilities:
- Assist Corporate Sales department with all steps in the sales process, including: assisting with sales pitches, research, and fulfillment of sales contracts.
- Excellent Computer including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point and Access.
- Experience with Scarborough Research, Nielsen Media and Arbitron Ratings a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, creative thinking and superior customer service skills suitable for sales-oriented environment.
- Background in sales, research, or hospitality preferred.
Infomation Technology Internship : POSITION FILLED
- Major: Computer Science

- Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot hardware (Desktop, Laptop, Printers).
- Desktop, Windows environment, and MS Office knowledge.
- Must provide excellent service for internal and external customers.
- A+ certification is a plus.
- Basic networking troubleshooting.
Media Production Intern : POSITION FILLED
- Major: Media Production and Graphic Design
- Responsibilities:
- Interns will learn the processes of live, multi-camera event productions and digital filmmaking and have the opportunity to work with audio production and graphic production projects. This is a hands-on opportunity and interns will be expected to be active participants on the production team.
- Assist in pre-production, production, and post-production in Scoreboard Operations.
- Gameday and Live Event Production Assistance as necessary, which may include camera operation.
- Logging and Digitizing Videotape (in Avid Edit System).
- Dubbing content to DVD.
- Audio Production.
- Graphic Design creation (Photoshop, After Effects).
Media Relations Intern : POSITION FILLED
- Major: Any
- Responsibilities:
- Updating players' files daily by clipping articles from various publications as well as updating their photo files.
- Copying daily game notes, statistics, and other pertinent information for game days.
- Preparing the press box for games days.
- Researching various projects as needed by department.
- Editing any information releases by the department.
- Mailing or faxing and press releases that the department issues.
Promotional Events Field Marketing Intern : POSITION FILLED
- Major: Marketing, Sports Business/Management, Communications
- Responsibilities:
- Responsible for researching, booking and coordinating appearances, for the Cincinnati Reds mobile marketing vehicle - the Reds Rover, for events such as: corporate sponsored functions, festivals, charity fundraisers and community events.
- Operate roving marketing display, set-up/breakdown, distributing team information, promoting team initiatives, and other promotional items.
- Excellent communication skills, creative thinking and an outgoing personality suitable for customer service driven environment.
Promotional Events Intern : POSITION FILLED
- Major: Marketing, Sports Business/Management, Communications
- Responsibilities:
- Responsible for executing game day promotions, giveaways and redemptions.
- Pre-games including: first pitches, presentations, Fan Zone activities, National Anthem, Honor Guard, and Meijer All Star Lineup.
- In-game promotions include, but are not limited to: mascot escort, preparing fans selected for Skyline Chili PA Kid, Skyline Chili Shuffle, Big Red Sofa Express.
- Assist the Promotional Events Department with administrative tasks such as answering phone calls, processing Scoreboard Message/Birthday Package orders, fulfilling Fan Pack requests, preparing the daily starting lineup boards, varied game-day preparations, data entry, and other duties as assigned.
- Support in-park as well as external community events, Hall of Fame Induction dinner, Redlegs 5K Run, Faith Day, NASCAR Night, and field marketing opportunities throughout the season.
- Excellent communication skills, creative thinking and an outgoing personality suitable for customer service driven environment.
Reds Community Fund - Booth Intern : POSITION FILLED
- Major: : Communications, Community Relations, Sports Marketing
- Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the day to day operations of the RCF booth during Reds home stands, duties include but are not limited to: booth set up, cash reconciliation, booth inventory, and end of game closing and reporting.
- Assist RCF with administrative tasks such as answering phone calls, data entry, program and event mailings.
- Support in-park as well as external community events, such as donation requests, RCF booth during home stands, Redlegs 5K Run, Father's Day Catch, Day at the Diamond and Marty Brennaman Golf event.
Reds Community Fund - Outreach Intern : POSITION FILLED
- Major: Communications, Community Relations, Sports Marketing
- Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the day to day operations of the Reds Rookie Success League, duties include but are not limited to: onsite set-up, coordination/assisting coaches, database management, and scheduling speakers, and end of season banquet.
- Assist RCF with administrative tasks such as answering phone calls, data entry, program and event mailings.
- Support in-park as well as external community events, such as donation requests, RCF booth during home stands, Redlegs 5K Run, Father's Day Catch, Day at the Diamond and Marty Brennaman Golf event.
Reds Community Fund - Donations Intern : POSITION FILLED
- Major: Communications, Community Relations, Sports Marketing
- Responsibilities:
- Assist with responding in timely and professional fashion to the donation letters/inquiries and general fan mail.
- Assist RCF with administrative tasks such as answering phone calls, data entry, program and event mailings.
- Support in-park as well as external community events, such as donation requests, RCF booth during home stands, Redlegs 5K Run, Father's Day Catch, Day at the Diamond and Marty Brennaman Golf event.
Ticket Sales Intern : POSITION FILLED
- Major: Sports Administration, Marketing, or Business
- Responsibilities:
- Excellent communication skills, creative thinking and an outgoing personality suitable for sales-oriented environment.
- Comfortable handling a variety of projects in a changing environment, knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new computer applications, and excellent communication skills - Word, Excel, MS Office, Internet.
- Answering incoming phone calls, printing and mailing group tickets, filing and other clerical duties.
- Game responsibilities include party area preparation, assisting with pre-game ceremonies, customer follow-up and general customer services.
Ticketing Operations Intern : POSITION FILLED
- Major: Any
- Responsibilities:
- Experience of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) and Internet, and ability to learn new computer applications.
- Excellent communication skills, creative thinking and superior customer service skills suitable for sales-oriented environment.
- Comfortable handling a variety of projects in a changing environment, answering e-mails and phone calls, processing and checking orders, checking and loading ticket kiosks, filing and other clerical duties.
