Orioles set 25-man roster

The Orioles today announced a series of roster moves that set their roster at the 25-player limit to begin the 2006 season.

The Orioles optioned C Eli Whiteside to Triple-A Ottawa and reassigned six players -- LHP John Halama, C Brandon Marsters, RHP Cory Morris, RHP Eddy Rodriguez, IF Eddie Rogers and RHP Tyler Yates -- to their Minor League camp.

At the same time, the Orioles placed two relievers on the 15-day disabled list: RHP Todd Williams with a right shoulder inflammation and LHP John Parrish following left ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery, both retroactive to March 24.

The 25-man roster:

Pitchers (11): Erik Bedard -- LHP, Kris Benson -- RHP, Jim Brower -- RHP, Tim Byrdak -- LHP, Daniel Cabrera -- RHP, Bruce Chen -- LHP, Eric DuBose -- LHP, LaTroy Hawkins -- RHP, Rodrigo Lopez -- RHP, Chris Ray -- RHP, Sendy Rleal -- RHP.

Catchers (3): Raul Chavez, Ramon Hernandez, Javy Lopez.

Infielders (5): Jeff Conine, Chris Gomez, Melvin Mora, Brian Roberts, Miguel Tejada.

Outfielders (6): Jay Gibbons, Nick Markakis, Luis Matos, Kevin Millar, David Newhan, Corey Patterson.

The roster includes 12 players who were on the 2005 Opening Day roster (Bedard, Cabrera, Chen, Gibbons, Gomez, J. Lopez, R. Lopez, Matos, Mora, Newhan, Roberts and Tejada) as well as two rookies, Markakis and Rleal, who will be making their major league debut.
