Indians and Boone re-structure 2006 contract; Option for next year exercised

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Indians today announced they have re-structured and exercised the 2006 club option on 3B AARON BOONE. The deal also includes a mutual player/club option for the 2007 season.

Boone, 32, is hitting .298 (50-168) with 9 2B, 6HR & 23 RBI in 47 games since June 4 and for the season is hitting .226 (74-327) with 13 2B, 10 HR & 38 RBI in 92 games. Boone, in his first season with the Indians, also owns the 8th best fielding percentage among American League third basemen (10E, 250TC) and is hitting .290 (18-62) in 18 second half games. He hit his 100th career home run on June 28 at Boston. Boone was signed by Cleveland on June 26, 2004 to a free agent Major League contract and did not play the entire 2004 season due to a pair on his left knee. He hit his 100th career home run on June 28 at Boston.

The 2003 NL All-Star owns a career Major League average of .265 (768-2899) with 167 2B, 15 3B, 102 HR & 431 RBI in 814 games with the Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees and Indians.
