CLEVELAND -- On Sunday, Beau Mills and Chris Gimenez were named the winners of the Indians' Minor League On-Base Program "On-Base-Where Careers Take Off," sponsored by Continental Airlines.

The on-base program stresses pitch recognition and patience at the plate for all position players within the organization's player development system.

Gimenez led all Indians' Minor Leaguers in walk percentage (16 percent) and on-base percentage (.421). Mills had the most "hard-hit at-bats," hitting the ball hard in 52 percent of his at-bats.

For their efforts, Mills and Gimenez will receive a round-trip voucher for anywhere in the continental United States from Continental Airlines. The duo was in attendance for Sunday's game against the Tigers and was presented the award shortly before first pitch.

Mills batted .293 with the Class A Kinston Indians, which was good for eighth in the Carolina League. The infielder led the league and the Indians' organization with 21 homers and was second in the league with 90 RBIs. In his first two professional seasons, the Indians' 2007 first-round selection owns a .282 average with 122 runs scored, 54 doubles, 27 home runs and 132 RBIs.

Gimenez, who bounced between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Buffalo this season, hit a combined .304 and walked 75 times in 372 plate appearances. The Indians' 19th-round selection in the 2004 First-Year Player Draft, Gimenez -- a catcher -- owns a .270 average with 294 runs scored, 116 doubles, 69 home runs and 255 RBIs in five professional seasons.
