KC announces '04 special events

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Royals announced today their special events calendar for the 2004 season, including the return of several traditional season-long promotions plus some exciting new giveaway items.

The giveaway lineup is highlighted by T-shirts featuring Tony Peña's 2004 Royals theme, talking bobbleheads featuring Royals Hall of Fame broadcaster Denny Matthews, retro "Trucker-style" Royals caps and Angel Berroa "Rookie of the Year" batting helmets.

The club will continue fan favorite promotions such as Kids Eat Free Sundays, Kauffman Stadium's Fan Fun Run after every Sunday game, and Fireworks Fridays presented by Hy-Vee and Pepsi. In addition, the Royals will host eight Dodge Buck Nights at which all fans can purchase hot dogs, small Pepsi's and peanuts for just one dollar each.

The 35th season of Royals Baseball gets started as the club celebrates Opening Day on Monday, April 5 at Kauffman Stadium against the Chicago White Sox at 2:10 p.m. The first 40,000 fans that afternoon will receive a 2004 Royals magnetic schedule courtesy of AMC Theatres.

Fans can also meet some of their favorite Royals at the five Sunday Autograph Afternoons scheduled throughout the season.

Select players will sign autographs from 11:30 a.m. to noon before games on April 25, June 6, Aug. 1, Aug. 22 and Sept. 12. The club will also host a special Royals Alumni Autograph Night on Wednesday, June 23 from 5:30-6:15 p.m.

Other special dates include the Royals Annual Salute to the Negro Leagues on Sunday, June 13, Kauffman Stadium's Frank White Statue unveiling on "Frank White Night" on Saturday, July 31, and the Royals Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony for Denny Matthews on Saturday, Aug 7.
