The New York Mets today announced the promotions of Tony Bernazard to Vice President of Development, Sandy Johnson to Vice President of Scouting and Ramon Pena to Special Assistant to the General Manager.

Bernazard joined the organization in November, 2004 and served as Special Assistant to the General Manager for the previous two seasons. Prior to joining the Mets, Tony worked as a Special Assistant with the Major League Baseball Players Association where he helped develop and maintain lines of communication between the Association and its members. He was also instrumental in the Association's effort to develop and promote international play, including the Japan All-Star series, the Olympics and the creation of the World Baseball Classic.

Tony was signed by the Montreal Expos as a free agent in 1973, and spent 10 seasons in the majors from 1979 to 1991 with the Expos, White Sox, Mariners, Indians, Athletics and Tigers.

Johnson also joined the Mets in November, 2004 as a Special Assistant to the General Manager. Before coming to New York, Sandy served eight years in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization working as a major league scout, and eventually as Vice President and Senior Assistant General Manager. Prior to joining Arizona in 1996, Sandy spent 12 years as the Assistant General Manager of the Texas Rangers where he was involved with Player Personnel and Scouting.

Sandy was a manager in the Brewers farm system for three seasons before he became a full-time scout for them in 1973. In 1974, he joined the Major League Scouting Bureau, serving as the Eastern Supervisor until 1981 when he joined the Padres organization as the Director of Scouting.

In 2005, Johnson was awarded with the Roland Hemond award for lifetime achievement by Baseball America.

Pena, who was hired by the Mets this past July, previously served as a Baseball Operations Consultant for the club. Before joining the organization, he was a Special Assistant to the General Manager with the Detroit Tigers. Ramon spent 22 years in the Tigers organization, coordinating Detroit's scouting efforts in the Dominican Republic and running their baseball academy in San Cristobal.

Prior to joining Detroit in 1985, Ramon scouted for the Kansas City Royals for four years. In addition, Pena played for two years in the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system.
