SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Padres today announced that the club has extended the contract of radio broadcaster Ted Leitner through the 2008 baseball season. Padres Chief Executive Officer Sandy Alderson made the announcement.

"We are pleased to announce Ted's extension and are glad that he'll continue behind the microphone for the next two seasons," said Alderson. "Ted is the voice of the San Diego Padres and a cornerstone of our broadcast team."

The 2007 season will mark Leitner's 28th of play-by-play as the Padres' voice and 27th consecutive season working alongside Jerry Coleman. XX Sports Radio (1090 AM/105.7 FM) will again serve as the Padres English-language flagship in 2007.

"I could not be more thrilled," said Leitner. "Broadcasting Padres games has been my primary focus for a long time. It's gratifying to know that I'll continue to work with the great people at the Padres and XX Sports Radio."

Leitner has worked as a Padres broadcaster for all but eleven of the franchise's 38 Major-League seasons and called action in each of the club's playoff years, totaling 30 postseason games.

Entering his 34th year of broadcasting in San Diego, Leitner's previous credits include calling game action for the NFL's San Diego Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles, the NBA's San Diego Clippers, the University of Oklahoma, the University of Connecticut and San Diego State University.
