Rays to play Rangers at Disney Sports Complex in area's first-ever regular season Major League games

LAKE BUENA VISTA -- The Tampa Bay Devil Rays will host the Texas Rangers for three regular season games, May 15-17, 2007, at The Ballpark at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex, it was announced today. The games are subject to the approval of the St. Petersburg City Council. Game time for all three games is 7:10 p.m.

"We're excited to provide the Orlando area with its first-ever regular season MLB games," said Rays President Matt Silverman. "We see this as an exciting opportunity to establish a relationship with the world's premier entertainment company, enhance our presence and grow our fan base in Central Florida, and give our fans a whole new way to see the Rays at "home" in an open-air environment.

"St. Petersburg is and will continue to be our home. We are partners with the City of St. Petersburg. Our hope is that the success we achieve in extending our fan base will benefit St. Petersburg as well by increasing the city's profile and bringing thousands of new visitors from around the region to Tropicana Field and its St. Petersburg environs."

Tickets will go on sale Saturday, Feb. 17 at Ticketmaster outlets and via the Devil Rays official website at All fans attending the games in Orlando will receive a voucher for a ticket to one of the remaining weekend games at Tropicana Field next season.

Season ticket holders will be offered the choice of comparable seats at the Disney ballpark or a refund for the three games. If they choose to attend the games at Disney, they will be offered other benefits as well.

Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex is the premier multi-use athletics complex in the country. The 220-acre facility plays host to more than 180 amateur and professional sports events each year. It is located at Walt Disney World Resort - about 90 miles northeast of St. Petersburg, 70 miles northeast of Tampa, and 20 miles southwest of downtown Orlando.

The Ballpark at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex has played host to several high-profile Major League Baseball events in recent years. In addition to serving as the spring training home of the Atlanta Braves for the past decade, the Ballpark at Disney hosted six World Baseball Classic games this past spring. The ballpark at Disney seats approximately 9,500 fans, but can be expanded to 13,000.
