LAS VEGAS -- Jeff Kingston, who has been an assistant general manager with the Mariners for the past nine years, resigned from that post to take the same position with the Dodgers on Sunday.
Kingston, 41, was originally hired by former Mariners general manager Jack Zduriencik in 2009 and remained with the club when Jerry Dipoto replaced Zduriencik three years ago. Kingston was promoted to the title of vice president and assistant GM in 2015 and was given that same title by the Dodgers.
Kingston worked as Dipoto's top assistant, helping with player acquisitions, contract negotiations and player evaluations, and oversaw the player development and baseball analytics departments. He served as the club's interim general manager for the final month of the 2015 season after Zduriencik was fired and before Dipoto was hired.
Kingston's departure leaves Justin Hollander as Dipoto's top assistant. Hollander was hired away from the Angels two years ago to be the director of baseball operations and was promoted to an assistant general manager position six weeks ago.
Kingston previously worked the Padres for nine seasons before being hired by the Mariners.
