How can I improve my Gameday audio performance?

When using the Netscape Browser with my Macintosh I have trouble accessing the audio feeds.

From time to time you may need to clear your cache in the Netscape browser. To do this:

  1. Open your Netscape browser.
  2. Under the Edit tab click on Preferences.
  3. In the left window click on Advanced. This should open a window on the right.
  4. There are two buttons on top - clear memory cache & clear disk cache. Click each of these.
  5. Close the Netscape browser and retry.
  6. If you are still unsuccessful you may need to obtain another version of Netscape or consider using Internet Explorer on the Mac.
For further assistance please review how to work with Netscape Navigator.

When using the Internet Explorer browser I have trouble accessing the audio feeds.

From time to time you may need to clear your cache in the Netscape browser. To do this:

  1. Open your Internet Explorer browser.
  2. Under the Tools tab click on Internet Options, this should open a window on the left.
  3. Under the General tab you will see a section called Temporary Internet Files.
  4. Under Temporary Internet Files click on Delete Files, this will open a smaller window asking if you want to delete all offline content. Place a check in the box, and click OK.
  5. Click OK. Close the Internet Explorer browser and retry.

I am receiving errors when trying to connect to MLB.com Gameday Audio while using America Online (AOL).
You might have problems using the AOL Browser with MLB.com Gameday Audio. We recommend you use Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator. You will need to minimize your AOL browser window to access these. These errors typically happen for one of the following reasons:

  1. AOL has an "idle timer" feature that automatically disconnects you if you have not used your computer while connected to AOL for a predetermined amount of time. You will receive a "Cannot connect to server" error message if AOL has terminated your connection and you try to access the Internet with RealOne. If this occurs, you must reconnect to AOL. Once you have reconnected to AOL, you can access content with RealOne.

  2. When you install RealOne and use AOL 4.0 or 5.0 to connect to the Internet, RealOne may configure itself to use your web browser's HTTP proxy settings. As a workaround for this problem, reconfigure RealOne so it does not use the HTTP proxy settings.
    1. Close your MLB.com Gameday Audio pop-up window.
    2. From your desktop or your start menu launch RealOne.
    3. From the menu bar at the top of your RealOne Player, click Tools and select Preferences.
    4. On the left-hand side of the next screen click on Connection, select Proxy.
    5. There should be no checkmarks in any of the boxes.
    6. Click 'Auto-detect HTTP proxy now'
    7. Click ok, close your RealOne Player window and restart your audio feed from the MLB.com Gameday Audio homepage.

If RealOne was unable to detect your HTTP proxy, you must contact your Systems administrator.

  3. Some AOL access levels prohibit RealOne from connecting to content for playback. If your screen name has restricted access levels (i.e., Parental Controls), you must remove access restrictions on the affected AOL screen name.

To change the AOL Parental Control settings:

  1. Start AOL
  2. Click the "My AOL" menu and choose "Screen Names"
  3. Click Edit Parental Controls Settings in the Parental Controls section of the AOL Screen Names dialog box
  4. Select the Screen Name you want to change
  5. Click the General Access (18+) button and click Accept New Category
  6. Click OK
The Parental Controls feature allows parents to assign specific levels of access to each screen name, or edit existing settings on AOL. For more information on AOL parental controls, visit the following AOL's web site.

Dr. Watson is a virus scanning software that may prevent you from downloading or installing other software, like the RealOne Player. If you receive a Dr. Watson error:

  • Please completely uninstall the RealOne Player application.
  • Deactivate your Dr. Watson application under Programs, in your start menu.
  • Re-Install the RealOne Player and try running the application again. Free RealOne Player.

I am receiving errors when trying to connect to MLB.com Gameday Audio while using Earthlink.
The current Earthlink NTSI Winsock is incompatible with RealOne. To solve this problem, you must install Windows Dial Up Networking (DUN) and reinstall RealOne. The Earthlink installer attempts to configure DUN on your system; however, you may need to configure DUN manually.

To configure DUN manually, refer to the instructions in the "How to setup Win95 Dialup Networking (DUN)" support document on this Earthlink page.

Microsoft DUN replaces the Earthlink access panel. When connecting to the Internet through Earthlink, you can access Netscape, MS Internet Explorer, Eudora, etc. through DUN. Earthlink provides extensive technical support and help pages on their website.

    I am having problems registering.

When I try to subscribe, I get a message that states, "An account has already been created with that email address."
There are two steps to the subscription process. The first opens a FREE account with MLB.com that allows you access to all of our non-subscription based features such as the fan forums and fantasy baseball. MLB.com Gameday Audio is a feature added to your general account. Therefore, you should start your registration as a "Returning User." This will allow you to bypass the section of the registration that gives you this message. You must use the email address and password you initially registered with. If you cannot remember your password select "Forgot Password", and a randomly generated password will be sent to your email account.

When I click on a game to start the registration process, I am repeatedly brought back to the top of the audio page.
This problem has been noticed when using AOL's browser - MLB.com recommends you use Internet Explorer or Netscape's web browser when using AOL.

If you are not using AOL but you are experiencing this problem try refreshing your browser or clearing your cache.

I tried to register and my browser crashed. Now when I try to re-register, I get a message that tells me I am using a duplicate e-mail address.
This will produce the same outcome as above, so in order to correct this, you must go to the MLB.com Gameday Audio home page and click on any MLB.com Gameday Audio feed. Then click on "Purchase the MLB.com Gameday Audio package now." On the left-hand side, enter your email address and your password. Finally, you need to click on the continue button and follow the registration process.

Is there a phone number where I can complete my registration?
We suggest that the customer complete all registrations on-line. If you experience difficulty completing the on-line registration process you should contact our toll-free MLB.com Customer Service Hotline at 1-866-800-1275.

How do I access my team's MLB.com Gameday Audio feed?

When I select a game, I get the message "Game not in Progress" or "server is busy."
Please check that both your browser cookies and RealOne cookies are enabled.

In Internet Explorer, you can do this by opening a browser window, and clicking on Tools from the top bar. Select Internet Options, then click on the Security tab. Make sure the Internet Zone is selected then click on Custom Level and scroll down to the cookies section.

If you are at work, you are probably getting this error due to a firewall or proxy device.
Please review our FAQ on firewall compatibility (below) with RealOne. You may also need to contact your network administrator to open the Real audio ports. You can also visit this site.

How do I configure my MLB.com Gameday Audio to work through a firewall?
If you receive an error message about a network firewall when attempting to play content with RealOne, or if you are unsure if a network firewall is preventing you from playing content, check with your Network Administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP).

For instructions on configuring RealOne to work with a network firewall, you can also visit this site.

Note: If you are connecting to the Internet via AOL, MSN, EarthLink, Sympatico, MindSpring, Netcom, Sprynet, CompuServe, Prodigy Internet, or another common ISP, you should not need to configure RealOne for use with a firewall.

Also, please review our suggested RealOne settings and our suggested system specifications. If you read those topics and still have a problem, please call our toll-free MLB.com Customer Service Hotline at 1-866-800-1275.

My connection is poor; I get static and varying sound quality.
This is most likely a problem with your current RealOne preferences. To reconfigure your RealOne settings, launch your RealOne player from your desktop and:

    • Click Tools and select Preferences.
    • From the left-hand side of the next screen, click Connection
    • Ensure that your Maximum bandwidth is configured to match your minimum bandwidth connection
    • Set your player to buffer every 30 sec when needed.
    • From the left-hand side of the screen, Click Network Transport
    • Click "Manually configure connections settings"
    • From the left-hand side of the screen, Click General
    • Uncheck "Enable a history list in the File menu"
    • Click "Clear History", then Click OK.

To further ensure your sound quality you may want to try the following: Reconfigure RealOne Preferences If changing your RealOne preferences did not fix your problem: You should try closing and reopening the MLB.com Gameday Audio RealOne window. You may have to uninstall and then reinstall RealOne. Your P.C. may have to be reconfigured to provide more memory for the RealOne to play successfully.

Can I listen to a game and surf MLB.com?
Yes. You may want to watch the game's events using our MLB.com Gameday page for your favorite team. However, we do not recommend keeping several browsers open because it may affect system performance. If you are trying to load pages while streaming audio and are on a dial-up connection, you will interrupt the stream by using the bandwidth to download the pages.
