  • February 10, 1971 > Bill White becomes the first black play-by-play broadcaster in Major League history. WPIX-TV hires the former slick-fielding first baseman to team with Phil Rizzuto and Frank Messer on New York Yankee broadcasts. White will later become the first African-American to serve as president of the American League.
