Mets-Nats opener rained out; DH Saturday

WASHINGTON -- The Nationals will play their fourth doubleheader in nine days on Saturday after Friday’s game against the Mets was postponed due to inclement weather.

The National League East foes will open a pair of seven-inning tilts on Saturday starting at 3:05 p.m. ET. The second game -- which was originally scheduled for 6:05 p.m. on Saturday -- will begin 30-45 minutes after the completion of the makeup game.

's final start of the season was bumped from Friday night to Game 1 on Saturday. He is 1-0 with a 2.57 ERA in two starts against the Mets this year. Scherzer’s 2020 debut also was impacted by rain, when the Nationals' season opener against the Yankees was called in the top of the sixth on July 23.

is slated to take the mound in Game 2. He is looking to close his 15th MLB season on a high note after a win over the Phillies on Monday. Sánchez was yanked from his only outing of the season against the Mets on Aug. 12 after 2 2/3 innings.

The Nats previously played doubleheaders last Friday and Sunday against the Marlins, and on Tuesday against the Phillies. They went 4-2 in twin-bill action.
