CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Former Major League stars will be swinging for the fences, and for kids, at a star-studded MLB Alumni Game this weekend.

The Baseball for Kids Legends Game, climaxing the leadoff weekend of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association's 2005 "Baseball For Kids" weekend, unfolds Sunday at Bright House Networks Field.

The action takes place at the Spring Training home of the Phillies, beginning with a 5 p.m. celebrity Home Run Derby and continuing at 6 p.m. with an exhibition game that features rosters filled with 32 former big leaguers and personalities from the entertainment and sports worlds.

And, for the first time ever, fans can watch or listen live to both unique events, as MLB.com is the exclusive live broadcast outlet. Broadband fans can tune in to live streaming video, produced in conjunction with local Tampa Bay Sports TV "Catch 47," while narrowband fans can hear all the audio action simulcast on MLB Radio. Both streams are available free of charge.

MLB.com's own Billy Sample will handle the play-by-play while his partner Jim Leyritz pulls double duty. The former Yankees World Series hero will mic'd to provide color commentary while participating in both the Home Run Derby and the game.

Tickets for the Legends Game, which will benefit All Children's Hospital and the MLBPAA, are now available online at the Phillies' website, www.phillies.com, priced at $12 for premium boxes and $10 for field boxes.

Tickets may also be purchased by calling the Bright House Networks Field box office at (727) 442-8496, open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or in person at the park, located at 601 North Old Coachman Road in Clearwater.

Serving as official "host" of the event will be Wade Boggs, one of the two newest members of the Hall of Fame.

Boggs, who will be enshrined in Cooperstown along with Ryne Sandberg in July, will be joined in the game by fellow Hall of Famers Orlando Cepeda, Ferguson Jenkins, Bob Feller, Harmon Killebrew and Gaylord Perry.

"I'm honored to be hosting this great event that benefits two important charities serving the children of our community," said Boggs, a Tampa resident.

Among the other former Major Leagues due to participate are Vida Blue, Tony Oliva, Jim Rice, Dave Parker, Goose Gossage, George Foster, Luis Tiant and Mudcat Grant.

Trying her hand at hardball will be Michele Smith of the U.S. Olympic softball team, while former Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Joe Jurevicius and Mike Alstott will go to bat for the NFL.

Also on the bill are actors Brian Cranston, Paul Gleason, Jonathan Silverman and Zachery Ty Bryan -- who apparently knows his line drives, along with his lines.

Bryan and Kevin Bass will be the defending champions in the Baseball for Kids Celebrity Home Run Derby & Hitting Challenge, which will kickoff the competitive aspect of the weekend of activities centered around local youth.

Saturday night's Baseball for Kids Dinner and Auction, at Tampa's A La Carte Pavilion, gets things started. Sunday's pre-game events include an autograph-signing program (featuring yet two other Hall of Famers, Whitey Ford and Dennis Eckersley, joining Boggs, Killebrew and Cepeda) and the clinic that is always a centerpiece of these MLBPAA weekends.

The clinics fulfill the association's mission to teach kids baseball and life skills, and this weekend's event will be the first of 19 this year.

Other "Legends for Youth" clinics are slated to take place in such varied locations as Flushing, Colorado Springs, Atlanta, Cooperstown and Puerto Rico.
