Nyjer Morgan plated three runs with an inside-the-park homer in the third inning and Phoenix held on for a 6-5 victory over Scottsdale on Wednesday.

Morgan, a Pittsburgh Pirates outfield prospect, lofted his first long ball of the season after Chris Getz (White Sox) and Raul Padron (Athletics) led off the frame with singles. Morgan followed with a one-out shot to center field that gave the Desert Dogs (15-9) a 3-1 lead.

Morgan went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base. He was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth and stole second before crossing the plate on a single by Ryan Sweeney (White Sox). Sweeney also stole second and came around on an RBI single by Jason Delaney (Pirates) to increase the lead to 5-1.

Sweeney led off the ninth with a single off reliever Carlos Muniz (Mets), stealing his second base of the game and going to third on a flyout. Consecutive walks to Andrew McCutchen (Pirates) and Matt Macri (Twins) loaded the bases, and Sweeney scored what proved to be the deciding run on a sacrifice fly by Getz.

Phoenix starter Anthony Swarzak (Twins) permitted one unearned run on three hits in four innings to earn the win. Swarzak (1-0) struck out one and did not walk a batter. Closer Bob McCrory (Orioles) gave up a sacrifice fly to Aaron Cunningham (Diamondbacks) in the ninth, but got Caleb Stewart (Mets) on a groundout to nail down his fifth save.

Scottsdale (11-14) put up two runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 5-4. Cunningham led off with a walk and eventually scored on a missed catch error by shortstop Blake Davis (Orioles). Sergio Santos (Blue Jays) followed with a sharp single to right that plated Travis Snider (Blue Jays).

Scottsdale starter Mike Prochaska (Devil Rays) surrendered five runs on six hits in 4 1/3 innings. Prochaska (2-2) fanned three and did not walk a batter.
