2007 finish: 71-91, last place, NL West.
Deals so far: Re-signed SS Omar Vizquel (one year plus vesting option for 2009). Players eligible for arbitration: RHPs Kevin Correia, Brad Hennessey and Vinnie Chulk. Free agents: OF Barry Bonds, 1B-OF Ryan Klesko, 3B Pedro Feliz, C Mike Matheny, RHP Russ Ortiz.Needs: Infield, outfield and relief pitching. The Giants particularly need a third baseman, since Feliz, who is said to want a three-year contract, appears unlikely to re-sign. Despite being well-stocked with outfielders, the Giants might be seeking a big bat to anchor the middle of the batting order. They definitely need experience and depth in the bullpen.
Dealing strengths: The Giants are willing to part with Noah Lowry, their leading winner in '07, as well as fellow starters Jonathan Sanchez and Kevin Correia, who have shown flashes of brilliance. Even Matt Cain and Tim Lincecum, the prized pair of right-handers, have been mentioned in trade rumors. Catcher Bengie Molina, a key run producer and respected leader, could be had in the right deal.Chris Haft is a reporter for MLB.com.
