Colorado's Jason Jennings voted NL Rookie of the Month
Jason Jennings of the Colorado Rockies compiled a 5-1 record with a 3.55 ERA and was voted the National League Rookie of the Month for August.
In six starts, Jennings pitched 38.0 innings, allowed 30 hits and struck out 25 batters. On Aug. 12, he recorded his 13th win with a 1-0 victory over the Marlins to pass Armando Reynoso as the winningest rookie pitcher in Rockies’ history. On Aug. 23, exactly one year after he became the first player to throw a complete game shutout and hit a home run in his Major League debut, Jennings won his 15th game, the most by a National League rookie since Tom Browning won 20 in 1985. He currently leads all Major League rookies with 16 wins and a .727 winning percentage.
Two other rookies received votes: May winner Austin Kearns of the Reds (.374, 5 HR, 15 RBIs) and Brad Wilkerson of the Expos (.323, 6 HR, 17 RBIs).
Jennings will receive an engraved, specially designed award from the T.R. Miller Company to commemorate his Rookie of the Month performance.
