Tavarez suspended for 10 days
tickets for any Major League Baseball game
Pitcher Julian Tavarez of the St. Louis Cardinals has been suspended for 10 days for applying a foreign substance to baseballs while he was pitching during the Cardinals-Pittsburgh Pirates game in St. Louis, Missouri on Friday, August 20, 2004. Bob Watson, Vice President of On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Unless appealed, Tavarez's suspension is scheduled to begin tonight. If appealed, the suspension will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
