Houston Astros outfielder Hunter Pence, whose .591 (13-22) batting average led the Majors, and Arizona Diamondbacks righthander Jose Valverde, who led the Majors with four saves, have been named Bank of America Presents the National League Co-Players of the Week for May 14-20, 2007. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the American League and National League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect the company's long-standing tradition of recognizing achievements that inspire us all to seize opportunities to perform at our very best.

Pence, 24, led the National League with a 1.091 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage. Over the six-game span, Hunter hit two home runs, scored five runs and drove in five runs. On May 15th vs. San Francisco, Pence was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. The following day, also against the Giants, the Texas native went 4-for-4 with a home run. Valverde did not allow an earned run in four innings pitched. Jose struck out four batters and allowed only two hits. After recording his 16th save in yesterday's game against the Pirates, the 27-year-old righthander now ranks second in the Majors behind only Milwaukee's Francisco Cordero (17).

Other nominees this past week included Valverde's Arizona teammates Randy Johnson (2-0, 1.54 ERA, 19 SO) and Mark Reynolds (.389, 5 RBI); Atlanta's Chipper Jones (.333, 2 HR, 3 RBI) and Edgar Renteria (.414, 2 HR, 3 RBI); Florida's Jeremy Hermida (.417, 2 HR, 6 RBI), Hanley Ramirez (.367, 2 HR, 6 R), Dan Uggla (.300, 2 HR, 4 RBI) and Sergio Mitre (2-0, 2.45 ERA, 7 SO); David Wright (.409, 4 HR, 10 RBI) of the Mets; Aramis Ramirez (.423, 3 HR, 12 RBI) of the Cubs; Cincinnati's Brandon Phillips (.375, 2 HR, 6 RBI); Milwaukee's J.J. Hardy (.300, 3 HR, 7 RBI); Pittsburgh's Xavier Nady (.375, 7 RBI); David Eckstein (.500, 11 H) of the Cardinals; Colorado's Brad Hawpe (3 HR, 6 RBI) and Taylor Buchholz (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 4 SO); Rafael Furcal (.500, 13 H, 4 RBI) of the Dodgers; San Diego's Kevin Kouzmanoff (.529, 4 2B, 6 RBI) and Justin Germano (1-0, 0.00 ERA); and San Francisco's Randy Winn (.448, 2 HR, 5 RBI) and Matt Morris (1-0, 2.40 ERA, 10 SO).
