Maddux wins clash of titans, backed by Burnitz

Greg Maddux allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings to earn his first win of the season, over fellow 300-game winner Roger Clemens. Jeromy Burnitz tallied three hits and drove in two, one on a home run in the seventh inning, off Clemens, that proved to be the game-winner.

Clemens takes hard-luck loss in historic matchup

Roger Clemens tagged Greg Maddux for a pair of singles and allowed three runs on seven hits in seven innings, but was outdueled in a sparkling pitching matchup between the two future Hall of Famers in the three-game series opener. Jeff Bagwell hit his third home run.
