Red Sox run themselves into trouble in Bronx

Holding a two-run lead in the sixth, Boston saw two baserunners thrown out at home and then watched as New York responded with five runs in the bottom half of the frame. Jason Varitek notched his 10th homer of the season in the fifth inning. Tim Wakefield allowed four runs, four hits and walked seven to suffer his fourth loss.

Cano, Sheffield dial long distance to pace Yankees

After New York erased two runners at home in the sixth inning, Robinson Cano belted a two-run dinger to right-center field and then Gary Sheffield added a mammoth three-run homer into the first row of the left-field upper-deck seats. Randy Johnson earned his fifth win, allowing three runs.
