Maine brings the pain to Cards
Beltran jolts the offense
With John Maine on the mound on Wednesday, the Mets didn't need to provide much offense. Maine threw seven brilliant innings, allowing just one hit and no runs, as Carlos Beltran's two home runs provided more than enough offense as the Mets completed a sweep of the Cardinals. Jose Reyes added his first home run.

Series at a glance:
Cards drop third straight
Converted reliever Braden Looper looked sharp in his first start for the Cardinals, but the Mets got to him in the sixth inning for three runs. That proved to be too much for St. Louis, which was held to zero runs and two hits as the Mets completed a sweep to open the regular season.
