Red alert: Cards heed call
Cubs split doubleheader
As he did in Game 1 of the Cubs' twin bill with the Cardinals, Alfonso Soriano belted a two-run home run, his 27th, but the Cubs were unable to hold an early lead. Sean Marshall lasted just 2 2/3 innings for the first-place Cubs, who now lead the Brewers by one game and the Redbirds by six.

Series at a glance:
Cards must win, and do
The Cardinals desperately needed a win in Game 2 of their doubleheader with the Cubs, and they got it to snap their nine-game skid and pull within six games of first-place Chicago. Yadier Molina sparked a four-run third with a two-run double and a run to back Joel Pineiro's seven clutch innings.
