Dave Bush gave up just two runs in eight innings, but Salomon Torres couldn't hold on to a two-run lead in the ninth inning to drop the series opener. Jason Kendall hit a two-run homer in the second inning, just his second shot of the season, and J.J. Hardy added a solo shot.
