2022

Spent the majority of the 2022 campaign in the minors, but did make his Major League debut, making seven relief appearances for the Cubs…overall, he had six stints with the ML club, including three times being tabbed as the 27th man in doubleheaders... Pitched to a 5.40 ERA (11 ER, 18.1 IP) in his seven relief appearances for CHC... Made his ML debut in the second game of a doubleheader on May 30 vs. MIL, allowing two runs in four innings... Made 21 appearances (18 starts) between Tennessee (AA) and Iowa (AAA), going 2-9 with 1 SV, a 7.55 ERA (59 ER, 70.1 IP) and 78 strikeouts against 44 walks.

2021

In 2021, Espinoza compiled an 0-1 record with a 5.02 ERA (16 ER/28.2 IP) in 12 starts at High-A Fort Wayne (Padres) ... has a 4.19 ERA (27 ER/58.0 IP) after pitching competitively for the first time since 2016.

2020

Invited to Major League Spring Training but did not appear in a game...was placed on the 60-day IL on February 12, 2020, and was assigned to the Padres' 60-man player pool on rehab assignment on August 15.

2019

Entered 2019 rated as the No. 12 prospect in the Padres system by Baseball America but missed the entire campaign recovering from a second Tommy John surgery, performed by Dr. Keith Meister on April 20 in Dallas...Had been progressing toward a late April/early May return to the mound when he suffered a ruptured graft.

2018

Espinoza (pronounced es-pee-NO-sa) missed the entire season recovering from Tommy John surgery in August 2017...Entered 2019 rated by Baseball America as the No. 12 prospect in the SD system.

2017

Missed the first 3 months of the season with a forearm strain before being diagnosed with a torn ulnar colateral ligament...underwent Tommy John surgery in Dallas in August. 

2016

Made 25 appearances (24 starts) between Greenville (A) and Fort Wayne (A)...acquired by SD from BOS in exchange for LHP Drew Pomeranz on July 14...Made 17 starts for GVL, going 5-8 with a 4.38 ERA (4 ER, 5.0 IP)...Struck out a career-high 11 batters on May 5 vs. Augusta...Acquired by SD on July 14th and assigned to FW...at the time of the trade, he was ranked the No. 15 prospect in all of baseball, the No. 4 pitching prospect by Baseball America and became the SD's top prospect by MLB Pipeline...Made eight appearances (seven starts) for FW, going 1-3 with a 4.73 ERA (17 ER, 32.1 IP)...Allowed 3 earned runs-or-fewer in 18 of his 24 starts, 2-orfewer in 14 starts, 1-or-fewer 10 times and 0 runs 5 times.

Made 15 starts between the Dominican Summer League Red Sox (R), Gulf Coast League Red Sox (R) and GVL, going 0-2 with a 1.23 ERA (8 ER, 58.1 IP) and a .193 opponent AVG...Named to the Rookie All-Star team by Baseball America while with the GCL Red Sox...posted a 0.68 ERA (3 ER, 40.0 IP) with 40 SO against nine BB with the GCL Sox.
