In the midst of a season-high five-game losing streak and a struggling offense, manager Jerry Manuel said adamantly Tuesday he expected to sit David Wright, and possibly Gary Sheffield. Sheffield is out of Wednesday's lineup, but Wright -- who has only sat one game this season -- is in. July 1: Johan, Mets come unglued vs. Brewers Two bizarre plays in the bottom of the fourth inning led the Mets to their fifth straight loss, 6-3, against the Brewers on Tuesday night. June 30: Struggling Mets mulling whether to deal The Mets fell below .500 for the first time since early May on Monday, leading some to ponder whether they should deal for reinforcements to bolster a lineup depleted by injuries. June 22: Ramirez takes edge on Rollins in NL vote With fewer than two weeks remaining in balloting for the July 14 All-Star Game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, the pendulum-like race between Hanley Ramirez and Jimmy Rollins continues to swing, and this time, it's in Ramirez's direction. June 21: Wright producing despite strikeouts David Wright is the National League's leading hitter with a .344 average entering Sunday's finale with the Rays at Citi Field. But the third baseman has hit just four home runs and has struck out 69 times -- the fourth most in the NL. June 18: Wright's having odd season at plate Despite the high number of strikeouts, David Wright is otherwise having a sensational season. June 17: Around the Cage: The game's best glove Who is the best defensive player in the game? MLB.com's reporters went Around the Cage to find some opinions. June 17: Wright's leadership skills shine vs. O's After five strong innings, Mike Pelfrey had trouble in the sixth, but the Mets' four-run fourth inning and some Orioles fielding errors led to a 6-4 Interleague victory on Tuesday. June 15: Fans help Beltran keep pace on ballot Center fielder Carlos Beltran may not be hitting .388 anymore -- as he did for the month of April -- but the Mets are fine with that. And so, too, are fans. Beltran remains among the three outfield leaders in the latest round of All-Star Game balloting, released on Monday. June 13: Castillo's error undoes Mets' comeback A stunning, 11th-hour error on Friday by former Gold Glove Award-winning second baseman Luis Castillo cost the Mets a victory, saddling them with an unfathomable 9-8 defeat to the Yankees in the first intracity Interleague engagement this season. Castillo dropped an almost-routine pop by Alex Rodriguez in short right field with two outs, and his error allowed the Yankees to the score the final two runs of the game. |
