NEW YORK -- Former New York Yankees Captain and shortstop Derek Jeter on Wednesday hosted the 19th Annual Turn 2 Foundation Dinner Presented by Morgan Stanley at Cipriani Wall Street. The event raised more than $1.5 million for the organization's youth initiatives -- the most ever raised at the gala.

Many of Jeter's former teammates joined the hundreds of celebrity guests, sponsors and other supporters for the Turn 2 Foundation's marquee annual event.

Michael Strahan -- co-host of Live! With Kelly and Michael and Hall-of-Fame New York Giants defensive end -- moderated a panel discussion featuring Jeter, New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher, former New Jersey Devils captain Bryce Salvador and New York Liberty forward Swin Cash. The athletes all are contributors to The Players' Tribune. Following the discussion, GRAMMY-winning artist Wyclef Jean wowed the audience with an electric musical performance.

"Since I retired last October, the Turn 2 Foundation Annual Dinner is the event I have most looked forward to," said Derek Jeter, who created the Turn 2 Foundation in 1996. "My family and I are grateful for the support of my fellow athletes, the celebrities, and our friends and partners who return every year and make possible our mission of helping young people reach their full potential."

Turn 2 this year honored Casey Close, partner at Excel Sports Management and Jeter's long-time agent, with its 2015 MVP Award. The organization also celebrated the 12 incoming college freshmen who in June graduated from its Jeter's Leaders program, recognizing their academic achievement and positive contributions to their communities. The Foundation's signature initiative, Jeter's Leaders is a four-year program for high school students in New York City and Kalamazoo, Michigan, who serve as ambassadors for Derek in their communities.

"The Turn 2 Foundation Annual Dinner is more than a celebration; it changes lives," said Sharlee Jeter, president of the Turn 2 Foundation. "Through the funds we raised this evening, and with the help of outstanding partners including Morgan Stanley, Turn 2 will empower future generations of leaders to make themselves and their communities better."

Hoda Kotb, co-host of TODAY's fourth hour, served as emcee, and comedian J.B. Smoove led a live auction featuring unique memorabilia donated by Steiner Sports Memorabilia and much more.

Celebrity guests included Carlos Beltran, Daniel Carcillo, Cash, Ken Daneyko, Hannah Davis, Dr. Sampson Davis, Fisher, Walt "Clyde" Frazier, Tim Green, Dr. Rameck Hunt, Jean, Andruw Jones, Angie Martinez, Tino Martinez, Chris Mullin, DJ Premier, Salvador, Smoove, Strahan, Joe Torre, Sasha Vujacic, Teresa Weatherspoon, Gerald Williams and Todd Zeile.

Since its launch in 1996, the Turn 2 Foundation has awarded more than $23 million to create and support signature programs that motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and "Turn 2" healthy lifestyles. Learn more »
