NEW YORK -- More than 37 New York City high school students from Miami Marlins owner and former New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter's Turn 2 Foundation joined together at the Foundation's annual Holiday Gift Wrapping party, where they assembled special gift bags to help brighten the holidays for hundreds of children across the nation.

Members of the Foundation's signature Jeter's Leaders program in New York City gathered at the Foundation's offices to assemble 1,100 gift bags, which included special items donated by Haddad Brands, Simon & Schuster and the New York Yankees. The special gifts were put together to help children from various Turn 2 programs in New York City, West Michigan and Tampa celebrate the holidays. A number of bags were also donated to areas affected by the recent hurricanes.

After assembling the gift bags, the Jeter's Leaders were treated to a special private pre-holiday party at an event space donated by SL Green Realty Corp, located in their 215 Park Avenue building where the Turn 2 Foundation is based. The party included a catered dinner, a raffle, a photo booth where the Leaders enjoyed having photos taken throughout the night and music provided by DJ Reg West.

"The Jeter's Leaders look forward to our Annual Gift Wrapping party every year, where they have the opportunity to spend quality time together while getting into the holiday spirit of giving back," said Sharlee Jeter, president of the Turn 2 Foundation. "Tonight, our Leaders worked together to make the holidays brighter for hundreds of children. We're proud to see the Leaders being so passionate about making a difference in their own communities and beyond."

Jeter's Leaders is the signature initiative of the Turn 2 Foundation. The four-year program fosters academic achievement, healthy lifestyles, leadership development and social change among high school students in New York and Kalamazoo who serve as ambassadors for Derek in their communities.

Since its launch in 1996, the Turn 2 Foundation has awarded more than $23 million to create and support signature programs that motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and "Turn 2" healthy lifestyles. Learn more »
