ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have added another starting pitching candidate by agreeing with right-hander Jordan Lyles on a two-year contract, Major League sources said Friday.

The Rangers won't make an official announcement until a physical is completed.

Lyles went 12-8 with a 4.15 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP in a combined 28 starts for the Pirates and Brewers last season. His best work was with Milwaukee after being acquired from Pittsburgh on July 29.

He made 11 starts for the Brewers and was 7-1 with a 2.45 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP over the final two months of the season. He is the second pitcher signed by the Rangers this offseason, after finalizing a three-year contract with right-hander Kyle Gibson on Friday.

Lyles, 29, has worked as a starter and a reliever in his career. Although he pitched well as a starter for the Brewers, he could pitch out of the bullpen for Texas if he does not make the rotation.

The 2019 season was a comeback year for Lyles. Over the previous four seasons, he was 10-19 with a 5.64 ERA and a 1.51 WHIP in 28 starts and 95 relief appearances for the Rockies, Padres and Brewers. For his career, he is 43-60 with a 5.11 ERA in 143 starts and 102 relief appearances over nine seasons.
