Is in his second year with the Orioles after spending the previous 37 seasons in various roles as a player, scout and coach in the Milwaukee Brewers organization...Castro's last position with the Brewers was serving as the Latin American Pitching Advisor for the Brewers in 2010 and 2011...Castro began the 2009 season as the Brewers pitching coach, a position he also held late in the 2002 season following Dave Stewart's resignation from the position...Prior to serving as the pitching coach in 2009, Castro spent 17 seasons as the Brewers' bullpen coach...Before his stint as the bullpen coach, Castro spent four years as the Brewers' Minor League Pitching coordinator, a position that included a one month stint as the pitching coach for Triple-A Denver in August of 1991...Began his post-playing career as a member of the Brewers' scouting staff from 1985-87...Served as the pitching coach for the Dominican Republic club in the 2006 and 2013 World Baseball Classic...Was voted as the Brewers' "Unsung Hero" for the 2001 season as voted on by members of Milwaukee's Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America.


Castro pitched for 10 seasons in the major leagues with Milwaukee (1974-80), New York-AL (1981) and Kansas City (1982-83), combining to go 31-26 with 45 saves and a 3.33 ERA in 303 career games (nine starts)...Posted a careerhigh eight wins and 13 saves for the Brewers in 1977...He was signed by the Brewers as a non-drafted free agent in October of 1970.


Bill and his wife, Mary, have two daughters, Katie and Cristina...Bill graduated from Liceo Pedro Maria Espaillat High School in the Dominican Republic, where he played baseball and volleyball, in 1970...Became a United States citizen on September 2, 2008.
