"HAWK": Hawkins enters his 30th season in professional in his seventh season as bullpen coach after being named to the position on Nov. 3, 2008...has assisted a Rangers' staff that saw sub-4.00 ERA's in four straight years from 2010-13 for first time since 1974-79, including 2013's 3.62 figure that was lowest by the club since 1983...this year will be his seventh full season on the staff after serving as the Rangers' interim pitching coach from Aug. 2, 2008 through the end of the 2008 season...a Waco-area native, he has spent all but one of the last 14 seasons in the Texas organization.

COACHING CAREER: Was the pitching coach at Triple-A Oklahoma from 2006 until he joined the Major League staff in Aug. 2008...worked with several pitchers who reached the Rangers during his time in the Minor League system...he was pitching coach for the High Desert Mavericks in the Kansas City Royals' organization in 2005...he spent four seasons from 2001-04 at various levels in the Rangers' farm system, including Stockton (California League) in 2004 and Clinton (Midwest League) in 2003...made his professional coaching debut with Savannah of the South Atlantic League in 2001-02.

PLAYING CAREER: The Major League veteran pitched 10 seasons with three different organizations from 1982-1991...Hawkins was taken by the Padres as the fifth overall selection in the 1978 June the 1984 postseason, he earned the victory in San Diego's only World Series win to date, Game 2 vs. Detroit...Hawkins opened the 1985 season by going 11-0, finishing with an 18-8 record and 3.15 ERA (80 ER/228.2 IP)...he signed with the Yankees prior to the 1989 season and on July 1, 1990 tossed eight innings of no-hit ball at old Comiskey Park, only to lose 4-0 after a pair of outfield miscues late in the game...he pitched for Oakland in 1991 and signed with Seattle in 1992 before retiring while on a rehab stint with Triple-A Calgary...his career totals include an 84-91 record, 4.22 ERA (731 ER/1558.1 IP) and 706 strikeouts in 11 seasons.

PERSONAL: Melton Andrew Hawkins...married to the former Jodi Ann McCabe...has four children: Katy, Libby, Curtis and Maggie...graduated from Midway High School in Waco, TX in 1982...has participated in the Ozarka Camps for Hispanic Community.
