PERSONAL: Dwayne Keith Murphy... Married with three children... Starred in both baseball and football at Antelope Valley High School in California... Earned a scholarship for football at Arizona State University, but turned it down to begin his baseball career... Graduated from high school in 1973... Following his playing career, coached high school football for four seasons (1991, 1993- 1995) before beginning his baseball coaching career.

PRO CAREER: Drafted in the 15th round of the 1973 Free Agent Draft by the Oakland Athletics... Made his professional debut that summer with Lewiston... As a Major Leaguer, batted .246 with 166 home runs and 609 RBI in 1360 games...Made his Major League debut with the A's in on April 8, 1978 against the Angels, and spent his first full season in the majors in 1979...Won the first of his six consecutive Rawlings Gold Glove Awards as an outfielder in 1980... Led the AL with 507 putouts, making just five errors, none over the last 79 games during that season, while setting a career high with 157 hits batting .274 on the season...Named as a Sporting News All-Star in 1981 after leading the AL with 15 game-winning RBI and ranking second in the league with 73 walks...During the 1984 season, smacked a career high 33 home runs, tying for third in the AL... Led all AL outfielders with 14 assists... Finished up his Major League career with one-year stops in Detroit (1988), and Philadelphia (1989), before concluding his playing days with a season for the Yakult Swallows in Japan.

COACHING CAREER: Joined the Arizona Diamondbacks organization... Made his coaching debut, managing Phoenix in the Arizona Rookie League... Was on the coaching staff of the High Desert Mavericks of the California League in 1997 when they captured the league championship that season...In the Diamondbacks' first season, was appointed as the team's First Base & Outfield Coach at the Major League level... Spent three seasons in that capacity... Named as Arizona's hitting coach in 2001, serving three seasons in that role, including Arizona's 2001 World Series Championship season...Joined the Blue Jays organization on January 1, 2005 being named as the coach for the Class AAA Syracuse SkyChiefs of the International League for the 2005 and 2006 campaigns... In his fifth season in the Blue Jays organization was named Roving Hitting Instructor...Began season as Roving Hitting Instructor and was appointed as First Base Coach for the Toronto Blue Jays on June 20, 2008... Named to the role of Hitting Coach for the 2010 season, seeing the club hit a record 257 home runs...Served in capacity of Hitting Coach from 2010-2012...Returns to the role of First Base Coach in 2013.
