Graduated from Capistrano Valley (CA) High School...son (Darrin, Dec. 21, 1994) ...daughter (Morgan Alexis, Jan. 15, 2003)...right-handed reliever comes to big league camp as non-roster invitee after signing minor league deal over winter...29-year-old has logged ML time each of last 3 seasons with Houston (2002-03) and San Diego (2004), going 3-4 with 4.75 ERA in 82 relief appearances...originally Twins' 27th round draft pick in 1994, has compiled 30-28 ledger with 80 saves and 3.24 ERA over 364 career minor league contests (6 starts).
Split season between San Diego and Boston organizations...went to camp with
Padres as non-roster invitee, and opened campaign with triple-A Portland...logged 2 different stints
with Padres, going 0-1 with 5.50 ERA in 14 relief outings...was dealt to Boston July 2, and spent
remainder of year as closer for triple-A Pawtucket...fashioned 3-2 mark with 10 saves and 3.26 ERA
over 24 International League appearances.
