Pet project: Heaney's Pup Cup supports CHOC

5K race will raise funds for hospital's therapy-dog program

July 25th, 2018

ANAHEIM -- Angels left-hander is bringing the Pup Cup to Orange County.
Heaney and his wife, Jordan, are hosting the second annual 5K race at Bolsa Chica State Beach on Saturday morning to benefit the Children's Hospital of Orange County. Participants have the option of running with their dogs, as the event aims to raise funds for CHOC's therapy-dog program.
Heaney, a proud owner of two dogs, Sadie and Charlie, said he was moved to support the cause after seeing the impact that therapy dogs have on children during his visits to CHOC with the Angels.

"We'll be in [at the hospital], Angels players," Heaney said. "That's pretty cool. But if a dog comes in, that's way cooler. [The patients] know the dogs, they're familiar with them, and you can tell how much that brightens up their day. I want to help contribute to that and have that continue to happen."
The event is being organized by Pastime with Purpose, a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization affiliated with Heaney's agency, ICON Sports. Pastime with Purpose also staged the inaugural Pup Cup last year in Oklahoma City. Details on the race can be found at Runsignup.com.
