GLENDALE, Ariz. -- All good things must come to an end.
Entering Thursday, Angels center fielder Michael Trout had not struck out once in 44 Cactus League plate appearances. However, that impressive streak came to an end when Trout was fanned by left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu in the first inning of the Halos' 4-3 loss to the Dodgers at Camelback Ranch.
Trout's longest streak without a strikeout in the regular season is 28 plate appearances.

The 26-year-old went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and is now batting .300 with a .917 OPS in 16 Cactus League games.

Cozart debuts at second
Zack Cozart played the first four innings at third base before shifting to second for the first time this spring to start the fifth. He played three innings at second, but no balls were hit to him. Cozart also hit his third Cactus League homer, a solo shot off Dodgers reliever Pedro Baez in the sixth.

Infielders Kaleb Cowart, Nolan Fontana and David Fletcher were among the Angels' roster cuts on Thursday, leaving Cozart as the club's backup shortstop and second baseman.
"Just getting over there and seeing angles is important," manager Mike Scioscia said. "He's been working out with [first-base coach] Alfredo [Griffin] for the last couple weeks there. There's a lot on Zack's plate. He's getting comfortable at third base. He's going to give us depth at short and second also, so he's up for anything."

The Ohtani brief
Shohei Ohtani threw a bullpen session Thursday, then logged extra at-bats in a Minor League game, collecting two hits in eight plate appearances.
"I think every time he goes out there he sees the ball a little better," Scioscia said. "It's a step forward."
Ohtani is scheduled to make his next start on the mound Saturday in an intrasquad game at Tempe Diablo Stadium. It should be Ohtani's final tuneup as a pitcher before the start of the regular season.
JC's day
JC Ramirez tossed six scoreless innings in a Triple-A game against the Giants on Thursday on a back field at Tempe Diablo Stadium. Ramirez, who is expected to open the season in the Angels' rotation, allowed two hits, while walking three and striking out three, in the 76-pitch outing.
"His velocity was good," Scioscia said. "He had both breaking balls, which had good movement. I didn't see the last inning, but up until what I saw, he looked good."
Prospect watch
Right-hander Jaime Barria, the Angels' No. 7 prospect per MLB Pipeline, started against the Dodgers and allowed two runs on three hits, two of which were home runs to Yasiel Puig and Enrique Hernandez, over three-plus innings. Barria is expected to open the season at Triple-A Salt Lake, though he could provide rotation depth for the Angels later this year.

Outfielder Brandon Marsh entered to play right field in the seventh, marking his first appearance in a Major League exhibition game with the Angels. Marsh, the Angels' No. 5 prospect, had an outfield assist when he threw out Gavin Lux at home plate in the eighth. He struck out in his lone at-bat in the ninth.
