Angels snag Wesely to start Day 3

For a high school pitcher out of California, left-hander Jonah Wesely is a well-polished product.

The Tracy High School product is physically maxed out at 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, and he already has an excellent understanding of the game. He was named to Rawlings' 2013 All-America first team and is committed to play at UCLA next season.

The Angels drafted him in the 11th round of the First-Year Player Draft on Saturday.

So while scouts can't add much projection to his game, Wesely stood out as one of the better high school left-handers in this year's Draft class.

His fastball sits in the upper 80s, and he occasionally pushes it into the low 90s (he was clocked as high as 92 mph at the Perfect Game National Showcase). Wesely has a good slider and changeup, and he controls all three of his pitches well.

The southpaw's aggressiveness is another aspect of his game that has many believing all three of his pitches have the potential to be Major League-average offerings.
