Angels to extend netting for fan safety

January 24th, 2018

The Angels on Tuesday announced plans to extend the protective netting at Angel Stadium in 2018, joining a wave of teams that have taken similar measures to increase fan safety at stadiums.
The protective netting will be extended to the end of both dugouts, with more details to be announced at a later date. The Angels will work with Populous, the architectural design firm recommended by Major League Baseball, to implement the changes.
In September, a 2-year-old girl was hospitalized after being struck by a foul ball at Yankee Stadium, spurring more clubs to extend the protective netting in their home ballparks. Ten MLB teams had already done so prior to the incident, and several clubs have pledged to follow suit this offseason.
