Pujols holds steady at fifth in All-Star voting

A second round of ballot updates for the 2012 All-Star Game were released on Monday. For the Angels, they showed the same results as the first: Albert Pujols in fifth place at first base, and no other position players among the top vote-getters to start the Midsummer Classic.

Heading into the Freeway Series opener, Pujols was on an 18-game run that had seen him bat .368 with six homers and 18 RBIs, raising his batting average from .211 to .256. But over the last week, his deficit against Tigers slugger Prince Fielder, the leading vote-getter at first base, has gone from nearly 600,000 to more than 700,000.

Fielder sported 1,421,786 votes at the start of the week, followed respectively by the White Sox Paul Konerko (1,147,089), the Yankees' Mark Teixeira (991,075), the Rangers' Mitch Moreland (852,091) and Pujols (707,779).

Fans can cast their votes for starters up to 25 times at and all 30 club sites -- online or via a mobile device -- using the 2012 All-Star Game Ballot until Thursday, June 28, at 8:59 p.m. PT.

Fans can also once again participate in the State Farm Home Run Derby Fan Poll, where they'll have the opportunity to select three players in each league who they would most like to see participate. The 2012 State Farm Home Run Derby -- part of Gatorade All-Star Workout Day -- will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN HD, ESPN Deportes and ESPN Radio in the United States beginning at 5 p.m. on Monday, July 9.

The 2012 American League and National League All-Star teams will be unveiled on Sunday, July 1, on the 2012 MLB All-Star Game Selection Show, televised nationally on TBS. Baseball fans around the world will then be able to select the final player on each team via the 2012 All-Star Game Final Vote on

The final phase of All-Star Game voting will again have fans participating in the official voting for the Ted Williams All-Star Game Most Valuable Player Award presented by Chevrolet. During the Midsummer Classic, fans will vote exclusively online at via the 2012 All-Star Game MVP Vote, and their voice will represent 20 percent of the official vote determining the recipient of the Arch Ward Trophy.

The 2012 All-Star Game will be played at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City on Tuesday, July 10. will provide extensive online coverage of the All-Star Week festivities.

The voting results showed the top five at each infield position and designated hitter, as well as the top 15 outfielders. And they showed five members of the Rangers -- catcher Mike Napoli, second baseman Ian Kinsler, third baseman Adrian Beltre and outfielders Nelson Cruz and Josh Hamilton, the leading vote-getter -- on pace to make up the same All-Star Game lineup.

Mike Trout (.350) and Mark Trumbo (.326 and 14 homers) are two deserving Angels players. But Trout wasn't on the original ballot because he was called up in late April, and Trumbo is listed as a third baseman, which he hasn't been since May 3.
