Jimenez misses time after being hit by pitch

ANAHEIM -- Angels third baseman Luis Jimenez left Saturday's 8-3 victory over the Rangers with a right thumb contusion.

The injury occurred when Jimenez was hit by a pitch, but he also hurt his left thumb sliding into home plate.

Jimenez was not in Sunday's lineup but said his thumbs felt a little better and that he expected to miss only a few days.

The Angels recalled infielder Tommy Field from Triple-A Salt Lake just in case, but Mike Scioscia said he did not think Jimenez would miss a significant amount of time.

"He's sore," Scioscia said. "He got banged up. We'll see when he will be available. Hopefully he'll be day to day."
