ANAHEIM -- Angels center fielder Michael Trout joined an elite club after clubbing his 20th home run of the season in Wednesday night's 7-0 rout of the Phillies at Angel Stadium.
Trout, who launched a two-run shot off Jake Thompson to help power the Halos' seven-run third, became only the fourth American League player to hit at least 20 home runs six times before his age-26 season, joining Alex Rodriguez, Tony Conigliaro and Mickey Mantle.
"It means a lot, just to have your name with the all-time greats," said Trout, who will turn 26 on Monday. "Obviously I don't think about this stuff until it happens. It's pretty special to me, for sure."
Trout helped set the tone for the Angels' big inning by depositing an 0-1 fastball from Thompson into the trees over the wall in center field. The milestone blast had an exit velocity of 105 mph and traveled an estimated 420 feet, according to Statcast™.
"The fastball that Trout hits out nine times out of 10 in that count," Thompson said.
Trout has now homered off 25 of 30 Major League teams and secured his sixth consecutive season with at least 20 homers, tying Tim Salmon for the longest streak in Angels history. Plenty of other impressive milestones remain on the horizon for Trout, who is only eight hits shy of 1,000 for his career.
"Every time Albert [Pujols] does something, it's fun to see the little postscript of who he's caught or who the next guy is, and we're seeing it with Mike," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "I think it just highlights what they're doing in their careers. It's fun to watch. For [Trout's] first five years in the league, there aren't many guys who match what he's done. When you see the names that he's connected with, it just makes you appreciate not only what he's doing now, but what's going to come in the future with him."
The two-time American League MVP Award winner missed 39 games after tearing a ligament in his left thumb earlier this year, but he has not missed a beat since returning from the disabled list, batting .328 with four home runs and 11 RBIs over 16 games.
