O'Neal joins Angels' TV broadcast crew

January 13th, 2022

The Angels and Bally Sports West announced on Thursday that Patrick O'Neal will join the network's in-game broadcast team for the 2022 season. O'Neal, who has been featured on pre- and postgame Angels coverage for Bally Sports West, also provided play-by-play coverage alongside Mark Gubicza for nine games last season. Gubicza will be returning for his 16th season as color commentator in 2022.

“I am beyond thrilled to cover the Angels in 2022 alongside Mark Gubicza and our talented broadcast crew," O'Neal said. “I especially want to thank [Angels owner] Arte and Carole Moreno, [team president] John Carpino and [Bally Sports West senior vice president and general manager] Rebecca O’Sullivan-Schulte for this incredible opportunity, and I can’t wait to get to work.”

O'Neal, who is replacing Rich Waltz, will rotate with lead play-by-play broadcaster Matt Vasgersian, who returns for his second season calling Angels games. It will be O'Neal's ninth year covering the Angels for Bally Sports West; he has spent more than two decades covering sports in his native Southern California. O'Neal has been nominated for six Los Angeles Area Emmy Awards for Outstanding Sports Reporting, winning the honor in 2006 and 2018.

“Patrick has been deeply rooted in Southern California sports for over 20 years, and we are pleased to welcome him to the Angels' broadcast booth,” said O’Sullivan-Schulte. “He has displayed an incredible commitment to Angels baseball, and we are excited that he will continue to enrich the network’s coverage in this expanded role.”
