Romine proves adept in move from short to third base

HOUSTON -- Andrew Romine appears to be settling in at third base after being recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Aug. 21.

Romine came up with the defensive play of the game in Saturday's 6-2 win, robbing Astros catcher Carlos Corporan of a base hit in the sixth inning by making a diving catch with his back to the infield.

"You're not going to find many third basemen can make that play," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Romy's a shortstop, so obviously he has the range to be able to do something special like that. It was an incredible catch."

Angels starter Jered Weaver was hard-pressed to remember a more remarkable play.

"I don't think you're going to see much better than that, that's for sure," he said.

Romine has played in 11 games at third base, 17 at shortstop and four at second bsae, and is getting the job done at the plate as well. Collecting a hit in seven of his last 11 games entering Sunday's finale, Romine also drove in four runs in his last six games.

Getting more comfortable at the plate with each appearance has been the key.

"Getting more at-bats obviously is the No. 1 thing that helps somebody get a little more comfortable in the box," Romine said. "Get some hits under your belt and good swings, and then feel a lot more comfortable at the plate."
