January 25th, 2016

The Angels claimed infielder Ronald Torreyes off waivers from the Yankees on Monday and designated left-hander Bobby LaFromboise for assignment.
Torreyes, 23, is a career .298/.353/.409 hitter through six seasons in the Minors with 22 home runs and 72 stolen bases. He appeared in eight games last season with the Dodgers and went 2-for-6 with a double. The Yanks acquired Torreyes from Los Angeles earlier this month.

Torreyes has played the majority of his career at second base, but he has also spent time at shortstop, third base and in the outfield. He could challenge for the Angels' starting second-base job during Spring Training. Johnny Giavotella, Gregorio Petit and Rey Navarro are expected to compete for the job as well.
LaFromboise has pitched in 27 career games in the Majors across three seasons and accumulated a 3.63 ERA.
