Angels acquire RHP Aaron Slegers from Tampa Bay

Rays to receive a player to be named later or cash considerations from Angels

ANAHEIM – The Angels today acquired RHP Aaron Slegers from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Slegers, 28, made 11 appearances (one start) for the Rays in 2020 and recorded two saves while pitching to a 3.46 ERA (26 IP – 10 ER) with 19 strikeouts. He worked at least two innings in nine of his 11 outings and pitched to a 1.88 ERA (24 IP – 5 ER) across his final 10 appearances. He also appeared in three postseason games for the Rays and posted a 1.80 ERA (5 IP – 1 ER).

A native of Long Beach, CA, Slegers was originally selected by Minnesota in the fifth round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Indiana University. He was named the Twins Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2017 and also made his Major League debut with Minnesota that season.

In a corresponding 40-man roster move, LHP Dillon Peters has been designated for assignment.
