Before winning Olympic gold, Alysa Liu spun -- literally -- a sick first pitch

With an unforgettable performance on Thursday in Milan, Italy, 20-year-old Alysa Liu became the first American to win a gold medal in an individual Olympic women’s skating event in 24 years.

But before she won gold representing her country in the Winter Olympics with her tremendous skating skills, Liu was taking part in the American pastime this past summer.

Last May, Liu tossed one of the most memorable ceremonial first pitches you’ll ever see, delivering an axel spin -- considered one of the toughest moves in figure skating -- on the grass in front of the mound before throwing the pitch at Busch Stadium prior to a Cardinals game against the Pirates.

Talk about athletic! From the baseball diamond to the Olympic ice, Liu can do it all.
