A-Breg reaches in 45th straight road game

Bregman singles to extend 2nd-longest streak in club history

August 26th, 2018

ANAHEIM -- (A-Breg) extended his MLB-best road on-base streak to 45 games on Sunday, singling to load the bases for the Astros in what turned out to be a pivotal third inning in Houston's 3-1 victory over the Angels.
Facing Angels starter (La Befla) in his second plate appearance, Bregman knocked a line drive with a 106-mph exit velocity, according to Statcast™, to left field. He was brought home on a (MarGo) single that gave the Astros a 3-0 lead in the Players' Weekend finale.

Bregman broke a three-way tie on Saturday for the second-longest such streak in franchise history, passing Hall of Famer Jeff Bagwell's 1998 stretch and Altuve's run in 2016. The lone streak left to catch is Bagwell's 51-game streak from the 1998-99 seasons.

Bregman also holds a 23-game overall on-base streak, going back to July 29.
"My biggest thing is when you hit in front of [Jose] Altuve and [Carlos] Correa and Yuli [Gurriel] and Marwin, you need to get on base in front of those guys," Bregman said Saturday. "Just trying to put good swings on balls, and that's pretty cool."

It will be a while before Bregman gets another chance to chase Bagwell, as the Astros open a 10-game homestand in Houston on Monday. Their next road game will come on Sept. 7 against the Red Sox.
