A plethora of A's prospects led the club to a 9-8 victory over the Royals on Tuesday as four members of the Athletics' Top 30 Prospects list combined to go 9-for-15 with three homers, seven RBIs and six runs scored.
Jorge Mateo, the No. 72 overall prospect (A's No. 4), led the way with a pair of homers in a 2-for-4, three-RBI afternoon. Mateo, who didn't appear in a Cactus League game until March 6, led off the game with his first homer of Spring Training, then went deep again -- this time a two-run homer -- in the fourth.
"It's pretty exciting stuff. To have that kind of speed and that kind of power as well, there's some flash to his game, he's got good arm strength," A's manger Bob Melvin said. "All good stuff. We saw it in BP, but to see it in a game, it's impressive."
Mateo's homer jump-started the A's offense, which put five runs on the board in the first -- all of which the prospects played a role in.
Franklin Barreto (No. 66 overall, Athletics' No. 3) scored the second run of the game after reaching on a base hit, his first in a 2-for-3 day.
Sheldon Neuse, Oakland's No. 11 prospect, followed up with a two-run homer of his own and Sean Murphy (A's No. 8) drove in the final run of the frame with an RBI double.
Neuse, who finished 3-for-4, added his third and final RBI via a base hit in the sixth and Murphy later added a double to finish 2-for-4.
Despite Mateo's remarkable performance, he was optioned to Triple-A on Tuesday evening.
Other top prospect performances from Tuesday's action:
• No. 2 overall prospect Ronald Acuna (Braves' No. 1) continues to make a bid for a spot on the Opening Day roster as he showcased his power with his second homer of Spring Training. The 20-year-old finished 1-for-3 and is batting .412, having collected a hit in nine of his past 11 games.

• Astros No. 9 prospect J.D. Davis boosted his Spring Training average to .394 with a pair of hits against the Mets. Davis has hits in nine of the 12 games in which he's registered an at-bat and has an OPS of 1.111.
• Blue Jays No. 11 prospect Richard Urena showed off his wheels with an RBI triple against the Braves. Urena hit .247 in 129 games with Double-A New Hampshire last season but is batting just .120 this spring.
• Cardinals No. 12 prospect Yairo Munoz continued his hot start with a pair of RBI singles. Munoz, who is batting .375 in Spring Training, drove in runs in the first and second innings and also added a pair of walks to finish 2-for-3.
• Mariners No. 21 prospect Rob Whalen's longest outing of Spring Training was a good one. The right-hander yielded one run, a solo homer, but was otherwise in complete control as he cruised through five innings, notching nine strikeouts and yielding just three hits.

• Nationals No. 12 prospect Andrew Stevenson needed just one at-bat to make an impact as he came through with a two-out, two-run double in the sixth that lifted his Spring Training batting average to .303.

• Orioles prospects Anthony Santander (No. 8) and Austin Wynns (No. 24) each showed off some power, going deep in Baltimore's win over the Twins. Each prospect went 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs. Santander hit his third homer of the spring in the seventh, while Wynns went deep for the second time in the fifth.
• Phillies No. 18 prospect Tom Eshelman spun another strong outing in the Phillies' win over the Rays. Eshelman, who has given up one run in eight innings over three appearances, struck out four and gave up two hits over 4 2/3 scoreless innings.
