Astros announce Spanish radio agreement and broadcast team

Club continues long-standing relationship with KLAT, broadcasters Alex Trevino and Francisco Romero

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros and Univision have reached a two-year extension of their Spanish-language radio broadcast agreement that will run through the 2014 season. All 162 games from each season will air on the Astros Flagship Spanish Radio Station, KLAT 1010 AM La Tremenda.

The 2013 season will be the 13th consecutive season that Astros Spanish radio broadcasts will be on KLAT 1010 AM Univision America.

“The Astros recognize that the Hispanic community is an extremely important part of our fanbase and we are excited to again be able to broadcast all 162 of our games in Spanish” said Astros Director of Marketing Scott Wakeman.  “Alex, Francisco and KLAT have been an amazing team over the years and we are pleased to continue those relationships for the 2013 season.”

The 2013 season will be Francisco Romero’s sixth season as the Astros primary play-by-play voice on KLAT. A graduate of the University of Arizona, Francisco joined the Astros in 2008 after spending five seasons broadcasting Milwaukee Brewers games on Telemundo Wisconsin. His Major League broadcasting experience also includes select Minnesota Twins games over five seasons from 2003-08 and two years on Arizona Diamondbacks broadcasts from 1999-2000. Additional sports broadcasting experience includes both football and basketball for the University of Arizona Spanish Radio Network (1999-present), as well as three seasons on the Arizona Cardinals radio halftime report. In 2003, the Arizona Daily Star named him as one of the Top 100 Sports Figures of Southern Arizona. He earned a 2004 Emmy Award from the Rocky Mountain Chapter in the sports reporting category.

Alex Trevino will serve as color analyst in what is his 18th year on the broadcasting team. Alex is a native of Monterrey, Mexico and a retired professional baseball player. Trevino played 13 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Mets (1978–81, 1990), Reds (1982–84, 1990), Braves (1984), Giants (1985), Dodgers (1986-87) and Astros (1988-90). He attended the University of Nuevo Leon in Mexico before starting his professional baseball career.
