Laird selected from AAA, Wallace optioned

Club also designates LHP Cedeno for assignment

The Houston Astros have selected infielder Brandon Laird from Triple A Oklahoma City, and have optioned infielder Brett Wallace to Oklahoma City, General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced today.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Astros also designated left-handed reliever Xavier Cedeno for assignment.

Laird, 25, hit .353 (18x51) in 12 games for the RedHawks with two home runs and 14 RBI with a .569 slugging pct. His 14 RBI lead the RedHawks and rank seventh in the Pacific Coast League. In 29 Spring Training games, Laird hit .328 (21x64) with five home runs and 12 RBI with a .609 slugging pct.

Laird was claimed off waivers by Houston from the Yankees on September 1, 2012. He has appeared in 28 Major League games in his career, including 17 last September with the Astros. Laird will be in uniform for Friday night's game and will wear #4.

Both Wallace (.042, 1x24) and Cedeno (5 G, 11.37 ERA) began the 2013 season with the Astros Major League club.
