HOUSTON, TX - On Saturday night, Astros Hall of Famer Jeff Bagwell will make his season debut as a guest commentator for AT&T SportsNet, joining Todd Kalas and Geoff Blum in the broadcast booth. The Astros will host the Oakland A's on Saturday night (6:10 p.m. first pitch).
Saturday will be the first of several appearances on the Astros telecast for Bagwell this season, as he is scheduled to appear monthly.
Bagwell enjoyed an outstanding, 15-year Major League career, all of which was spent with Houston. In 2017, he was bestowed with baseball's highest honor with his induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY.
"Jeff was a great player and is one of the most popular players in our franchise's history," said Astros President of Baseball Operations Reid Ryan. "He has a wealth of baseball knowledge and will bring a unique and enjoyable element to our broadcasts. We are certain that he will be a huge hit with our fans."
"I'm excited to join the broadcast and look forward to working with Blummer (Blum), TK (Kalas) and Julia (Morales)," Bagwell said. "I'm a big fan of this ballclub and love watching these guys play. This will be fun for me."
On the field, Bagwell was one of the best ever, tallying 449 career home runs and 1,529 RBI, both of which are club records. He also ranks first in franchise history in career batting average (.297) and on-base-percentage (.408) and is second in games, runs (1,517), hits (2,314) and total bases. In 1994, Bagwell became the first player in club history to earn the BBWAA MVP Award after hitting .368 with 39 home runs and 116 RBI while posting a 1.201 OPS.
