Anderson feels no discomfort after bullpen session

HOUSTON -- A's lefty Brett Anderson took his rehab to a pitching mound in Houston on Monday, throwing a 35-pitch bullpen without any issues.

Anderson, missing from the rotation since April because of a stress fracture in his right foot, utilized all his pitches in the session with manager Bob Melvin looking on, and he continues to aim for an August return.

"It looked like there were no problems with his arm," Melvin said. "He threw the ball really well. You could tell he was excited to be out there, and [he] didn't have any issues with his foot."

Anderson, 25, will throw again on Wednesday, as he continually builds back arm strength. Not much of his strength was ever lost, though, since Anderson threw from one knee after suffering the injury.

"It was kind of depressing throwing on one knee, but that was probably the best thing I could've done to keep up the arm strength," he said. "That helped quite a bit, because I feel I didn't really lose any [strength].

"Today was good. Obviously a little different throwing off the mound than flat ground, so throwing some pitches took a little getting used to. But I'm happy about it. It's kind of like riding a bike."
